Kanye West Debuts ‘Power’ Video

"It's not a video .. It's a moving Painting!!!"

Kanye West has aired a preview of the video for his track ‘Power’ on MTV.

Sampling British prog rockers King Crimson’s ’21st Century Schizoid Man’, the accompanying video for ‘Power’ is equally unconventional for the Hip Hop genre. Directed by Marco Brambilla, Kanye has described it as more of an animated painting than a conventional music video (well, he tweeted ‘It’s not a video .. It’s a moving Painting!!!’) and as you can see below it’s an accurate description for the oddly hypnotic clip.

Speaking about the video, Director Brambilla told MTV “I made it very clear at the beginning that I wasn’t really interested if it was going to be a music video, I wanted to do something which was more like a visual accompaniment to the track, and so it didn’t really need to be any specific length and it didn’t really need to be the whole song. It needed to kind of introduce the song in a different way and a fresh way, and I came with this continuous shot with no cuts, no lip sync, and the minute, minute and a half just … seemed like the perfect amount of time to show a video portrait.”

Kanye has also been in the news recently for his idiosyncratic tweets on his recently set up Twitter account. Beside being entertaining themselves they have kickstarted a new Internet meme with selected tweets paired with one panel New Yorker cartoons to surreal effect.
