British indie stars Kaiser Chiefs have been rolling back the years after their drummer Nick Hodgson was invited to recording sessions with none other than Duran Duran.
Epitomising the glitz and glamour of the 80s, Duran Duran are still going strong. The group remain capable of filling stadiums, and with groups such as The Killers paying homage to Simon Le Bon & Co. it seems that the revival in their fortunes shows no signs of abating.
Leeds indie stars Kaiser Chiefs have been more vocal than most in their love of the group, unashamedly admitting their admiration for the songwriters. However few expected the two bands to pool talents and begin working on material together.
The superstar team up has occurred due to the cajoling skills of producer Mark Ronson. Having helmed the last Kaiser Chiefs’ album ‘Off With Their Heads’, Ronson has now turned his attention to Duran Duran and in order to freshen things up the New Yorker has invited Kaiser Chiefs’ drummer and songwriter Nick Hodgson into the studio.
“I called Nick a week ago and asked if he’d be interested in coming to work with Duran Duran and write a song” Ronson told NME.
“He’s never done that before, because he only writes with Ricky and his own band, but I thought it made a lot of sense because there’s a lot of Kaiser Chiefs songs I could imagine being on a Duran Duran record 25 years ago.”
Ronson confirmed that the indie star worked with Duran Duran on three songs. “One is quite rocky, one is more Italo disco” he says. ”Two of them I would definitely say are making the record.”
