Justice Talk Remixes

"When the song is already good, we can only make it worse."

Returning French electro duo Justice have spoken about their approach to remixing.

Let’s get this out the way first: Justice have produced some fantastic remixes. The French duo tackled ‘The Fallen’ by Franz Ferdinand, delivering a remix that completely overshadowed the original.

Later adding a pulsating rock touch to MGMT’s ‘Electric Feel’, Justice have a proven track record. However in a new interview, the French duo explain that they are deliberately picky about which track they do and do not decide to remix.

“We never really did remixes for any other purpose than working on artists’ material that we liked” Gaspard Augé told Digital Spy.

Referring to a Britney Spears remix, the producer explained that the pair were delighted to be associated with the pop icon. “We were just happy to see our name on a Britney Spears record! All of this craziness over remixing is a little bit pointless because in the studio we have never listened to a remix of a track we like.”

Continuing, the Justice producer hinted at the demand for new remixes. “It’s just crazy how people in the music industry are dying for us to do remixes. We were asked to do a Johnny Cash remix but it doesn’t make any sense” he said. “When the song is already good, we can only make it worse.”

Justice returned with their new album ‘Audio, Video, Disco’ on Monday (October 24th). Arriving five years after their debut, Gaspard Augé revealed that the pair are already in discussions for a potential follow up.

“We already have a few ideas for the next album,” he explained. “When we finished Audio, Visual, Disco we still had the hunger to make more music, but we just had to stop and do the promo.”

‘Audio, Video, Disco’ is out now.
