Solo Smith Morrissey has won the first of his court battles, after Word magazine agreed to apologise to him after publishing inflammatory comments about him in their December edition.
The row first sprung up after an interview Morrissey gave to NME, in which the singer commented on the change in Britain, and why he now lives abroad. The singer objected strongly to the published article, arguing that it didn’t represent either what he said, or indeed himself as a human being.
Word magazine mentioned the NME article in a piece from its December edition. After being taken to court, the magazine has now issued an apology. The lawyer for Word magazine said in court:
“The Defendants offer their sincere apologies to the Claimant. They hope that by making this Statement, the matter will be clarified once and for all and the record will have been set straight.”
Morrissey’s case against the NME is still on-going.
