Former teen idol turned new age mystical guide Julian Cope has cancelled his show at the Royal Festival Hall in London scheduled for November 18th.
The former frontman of Top Of The Pops favorites The Teardrop Explodes, Julian Cope was a pin up until he discovered LSD to the detriment of his career – but benefiting his overall spiritual well being. Not that we condone that kind of thing, you understand.
Cope is a modern day cult hero, with his autobiography ‘Head On / Repossessed’ perhaps the finest book on the Clashmusic.com bookshelf.
Julian Cope hasn’t played a show in the UK since a slot at the Latitude Festival last summer, and the date at the Royal Festival Hall was much anticipated by fans. A statement from the organizer apologizes for the cancellation.
“We are very disappointed to announce the cancellation of Julian’s Royal Festival Hall show on 18th November 2008CE.”
“Unfortunately, Julian has been very ill for the past ten days with a throat infection and he was today advised by his doctor that his throat must be rested for at least another week. Due to the intricate nature of the planned 3-hour show, which involved strings and a large 10-piece musical ensemble, the difficult decision has therefore been taken to cancel rather than postpone the performance, as the scheduling conflicts of those involved has made it impossible to secure an alternative date.”
“Julian is devastated by these events and passes on his most sincere apologies.”
