Joya Mooi Charms With ‘Open Hearts’ EP

A sonorous six-tracker..

South African-Dutch vocalist Joya Mooi rises to the challenge on new EP ‘Open Hearts’.

The soulful vocalist blends a fondness for prime R&B tropes with an urgency of expression, resulting in something beatific and fresh. Her new EP ‘Open Hearts’ is a wonderful document of intent, a six-tracker that revels in her caramel-smooth voice.

A septet which draws on the force of her character and the depth of her experiences, ‘Open Hearts’ EP revels in freedom.

Opening with the clipped tones of ‘Poster Child’, there’s a palpable sense of intent behind ‘No Holding Back’; title track ‘Open Hearts’ meanwhile, is audio autobiography, a real statement of intent.

She says…

“Embracing a sense of freedom has always been a theme in my life. But after releasing my latest album, I felt a strong urge to dance and to dive into the past. I’ve always had a hard time taking up space, and with this EP I’ve allowed myself to lead with an open heart. Shedding a light on individuals who at times go unnoticed, highlighting their stories and triumphs. ‘Open Hearts’ is all about digging into how our pasts shape who we are.”

Tune in now.
