Joy Division’s Stephen Morris Q&A

Drummer to take part in event

Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris is set to take part in a special London event next month.

Thirty years on from the tragic death of Ian Curtis, Joy Division retain an iconic allure. One of the post-punk era’s most potent bands, their slim output is set to be gathered in a new vinyl only box set.

‘+ -‘ is due to be released next month, containing a number of seven inches. Charting the band’s career through their singles, it contains some rarely heard material and art work from Peter Saville.

Compiled by journalist and Factory associate Jon Savage, ‘+ -‘ is due to be released next month. Now Rough Trade East have organised a special event in which fans will be able to probe those who helped put the release together.

Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris is set to step out of the shadows. An inventive drummer, Morris enjoyed a famously fraught relationship with producer Martin Hannet, who obsessed over finding a new drum sound.

At one point banished to the roof in search of that unique sound, Stephen Morris has influenced countless musicians. Taking part in a new Q&A, fans can peel apart the Joy Division myths from the facts.

Designer Peter Saville will also be taking part in the event, while journalist Jon Savage completes the line up. All three are associated with the new release, while Savage has also compiled a new compilation of Californian punk rock.

The session takes place on December 8th, with the Q&A beginning at 7pm. Entry is free, although wristbands must be obtained in advance from the Rough Trade East store – see their website for more details.

Joy Division’s ‘+ -‘ is set to be released on December 6th.
