Joshua Epithet has shared curious new single ‘Does Marge Have Friends?’ – tune in now.
The Manchester-rooted songwriter’s debut album is incoming, with ‘Boys And Their Video Cameras’ set to land on May 31st. A kind of concept piece, the lyrics build up into the story of an actor who is seeking some form of self-love, and acceptance.
Take new single ‘Does Marge Have Friends?’ and its pop culture cornucopia. The song bounces between the downfall of binge-drinking, and daydreaming about the hidden inner lives of characters from the Simpsons.
Built with a dash of verse and the kind of piquant melodies Joshua Epithet has long since made his own, the song deals with “a failed attempt to escape your misery by going out drinking and clubbing only to realise you’re just as miserable there than you are normally. I wanted to create something that you could bop your head to whilst thinking about the horrors of it all”.
He expands on this, commenting: “Casey begins questioning if the characters in the show are happy, if they are fulfilled by what life has given them. Casey thinks about the type of relationship Homer and Marge have, specifically how he gets to go to the bar with his friends every night and she gets left behind. Who would Marge even go to the bar with? Does Marge Have Friends?”
Tune in now.
