Jorja Smith has shared new single ‘Falling or flying’.
The singer’s new album is out on September 29th, and she teased the release with a series of billboards around London. The LP is called ‘Falling or flying’, and Jorja revealed the tracklisting in its entirety in the most public of arenas.
Guests include British rapper J Hus and Jamaican singer Lila Iké, and the title song is online now. ‘Falling or flying’ absorbs her multitudinous influences into a seamless whole – there’s a neo-soul element, while those clipped guitar lines point to her emphatic live shows; there’s a touch of 80s chic, but also a nod to low-end production.
Jorja Smith directed the ‘Falling or flying’ clip herself, making her directorial debut. Working with Stink Film on the shoot, she comments:
“Came to mind ‘cause i always wanted to shoot a video in space. ‘Falling Or flying’ just made me think of that. I wanted to go up into space with someone I love and cherish, but they didn’t want to come with me.”
Discussing the collaboration, Stink EP Dom Mckiernan says: “Jorja is equally as impressive behind the camera as she is in front of it. Incredibly considered, quick thinking and just such a positive vibe throughout. Jorja had a clear idea of what she wanted and could communicate it to the crew cohesively whilst also being really collaborative and open to figuring out the best way to crystalise her vision together with the crew.”
