Reverend & The Makers singer Jon McClure is due to take part in a public debate at the Reading and Leeds festival.
Jon McClure likes to talk. As frontman of Reverend & The Makers the singer is extremely outspoken, lambasting those he opposes. In recent months the frontman has spoken out about the controversial Form 696, arguing that it is racist.
However it is the BNP who really hack him off. Recently the singer took his band into the studio to record a protest song just hours after the party recorded their best ever result in the elections for the European parliament.
McClure has taken part in a number of debates recently as part of the Instigate Debate project. Speaking in public seems to come naturally to the singer, who celebrated the release of Reverend & The Makers new album with an open top bus tour around his native Sheffield.
The singer is set to head to Reading and Leeds this weekend to take part in a public debate. Jon McClure will be joined by producer Stephen Street, who has worked on seminal albums by The Smiths and Blur.
Inspiral Carpets organ player Clint Boon is due to appear at the event, with journalists from the NME also due to take part. Best bring those rotten tomatoes then!
The panel will debate the topic ‘Dead Or Alive: Can Independent Music Survive The 21st Century?’ on the Alternative Stage on Friday (August 28th) in Reading at 12.30pm. The event then moves to Leeds on Sunday (August 30th).
Reading and Leeds is due to be headlined by Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon and Radiohead and is set to open on Friday (August 28th).
