Johnny Marr Working On Soundtrack

For Antonio Banderas

Indie axe-slinger Johnny Marr is working on the soundtrack to forthcoming film ‘The Big Bang’.

From his work in The Smiths onwards, Johnny Marr has been revered as one of Britain’s finest guitarists. With his shimmering style, the guitarist matched a knowledge of classic rock poses with almost effortless innovation.

Perhaps the first non-macho guitar hero, Johnny Marr is currently plying his trade with The Cribs. The band’s recent album ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ was an enormous success, but the guitarist is set to take time off to work on a new soundtrack project.

Johnny Marr is set to work on the soundtrack to ‘The Big Bang’ a forthcoming project starring Antonio Banderas. Expected to be released in the Autumn, the soundtrack will also be available as an album.

Speaking to the NME, the one time Smiths icon revealed that he has been inspired by electronic music on the new soundtrack. “I’ve done new stuff which is kind of atmospheric and almost Warp-like,” he said.

“Making the guitar sound electronic. Where other people would have used orchestras I’ve made the same effect using guitars.”

Johnny Marr has explored electronic music before. A project with Neil Tennant and Bernard Sumner resulted in the group Electronic, while the guitarist has also recorded with other dance acts.

Continuing, the guitarist revealed that director Tony Kratz recruited him after hearing Johnny Marr’s work with his previous band The Healers. Finishing, Johnny Marr described ‘The Big Bang’ as “a weird sort of half-detective, half-trippy” film.

‘The Big Bang’ is set to be released later this year.
