Johnny Marr and Maxine Peake combine on new track 'The Priest'.

The project is based on the writings of Joe Gallagher, who wrote a diary about his experiences of homelessness for The Big Issue.

Actress Maxine Peake delivers readings of Joe's work, while Johnny Marr crafts ambient guitar soundscapes in the background.

New track 'The Priest' is online now, and it's an extremely powerful collaboration, fusing a dramatic reading with adventurous guitar playing.

“I wanted to do something different and I thought of asking Maxine to collaborate having been a fan of her work,” says Johnny Marr. “We started a creative process that clicked and culminated in ‘The Priest’, a song and short film inspired by a facet of modern life as we see it and feel it.”

A full short film for 'The Priest' is online now - set in and around Manchester, it stars Molly Windsor in the lead role.

Tune in now.

Johnny Marr's new solo album will arrive in Spring 2018.
