John Lennon New York Tribute

For his 70th birthday

A one off concert is set to be held in New York next month in celebration of what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday.

John Lennon retains his iconic aura, almost exactly 30 years after his tragic death. An ordinary teenager in Liverpool, the young rock ‘n’ roll fan would mature into one half of the most successful songwriting partnership in pop history.

The singer would be preparing to blow out the candles on his birthday cake on October 9th, and fans are organising a number of tributes.

The former Beatle would have turned 70 years old, and a new all star concert has been confirmed. Taking place in New York, the show will include performances from Patti Smith, Jackson Browne and more.

A benefit concert, all funds from the concert are set to be donated to the Playing For Change Foundation. Helping to promote peace through music, BBC News reports that the charity will receive all profits from the show.

New York became John Lennon’s home for a decade, with the former Beatle deciding to raise a family there. The singer loved being able to walk through the city, mixing easily with fans.

A number of concerts are set to take place around the world in memory of John Lennon. Fans are holding their own events, while in Liverpool the singer’s hometown will pause to remember the former Beatle.

Meanwhile, John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono is planning several events to remember her husband. The Japanese artist is due to play two special tribute shows in Los Angeles next month, featuring Lady Gaga and Iggy Pop.

In addition to this, Yoko Ono is set to hold an event on Iceland. The peace activist has invited fans to take part, with the Japanese artist planning to lead the celebrations of her husband’s life.

John Lennon’s 70th birthday is on October 9th.
