Joanna Newsom On New Roots LP

And Jim James, too

Californian singer Joanna Newsom is to star on the new album by hip hop mavericks The Roots.

The Roots are one of hip hop’s most adventurous groups. The band’s use of live instrumentation has allowed them to travel where samplers fear to tread, with their deft rhymes matching musical experimentation.

Taking time off to work as the house band on ‘The Jimmy Fallon Show’ the group seem to have made some famous friends. Currently working on their new studio album, The Roots have invited along some unexpected guests.

Californian singer Joanna Newsom is set to appear on their new album. American magazine Entertainment Weekly broke the news, with the singer recently recording her part for the new Roots album.

Titled ‘How I Got Over’ drummer ?uestlove recently posting a video of the singer in the studio.

Speaking to fans on Twitter, the drummer said: “PROOF that yes indeed we are working hard on #HOWIGOTOVER (first look) mixing the Joanna Newsome Jawn.”

According to a re-Tweet, The Roots are set to sample Joanna Newsom’s track ‘Book Of Right On’ for the new album.

Joanna Newsom recently released her triple album ‘Have One On Me’ which gathered fairly sensational reviews. Kept under lock and key, the new album was shrouded in secrecy to beat pirates and whet fans’ appetites.

Adding her dulcet tones to The Roots’ new album, Newsom will be joined by Jim James. The My Morning Jacket vocalist has helped out on a re-make of a Monsters of Folk track for the new album.

The Roots are set to release their new album ‘How I Got Over’ this summer.
