Joanna Newsom For Obama

Alt Folk Star In Benefit Gig

Joanna Newsom is set to play a free show in Nevada in aid of US presidential candidate Baracl Obama, it has been announced.

Born in Nevada City, California, Joanna Newsom harks back to the carefree days of the 60s, when new psychedelic sounds combined with the healthy folk scene. With an utterly unique voice, and accompanied only by a harp, Newsom is a spell-binding live talent and her breakthrough album ‘Ys’ stunned critics on its release in 2006.

Currently working on a new album, it is thought that Newsom will play some new material alongside her more familiar works. The singer will perform at the Nightingale Concert Hall on the campus of the University of Nevada in Reno. The gig will take place on October 20th, with the show being designed to encourage voter registration.

The current presidential campaign has seen millions of apathetic voters galvanized, and music has had a large part in this success. Artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen and Vampire Weekend has played benefits for their chosen candidates – with the vast majority of musicians preferring the Democrat Obama.
