Joan Shelley will release new album 'The Spur' on June 24th.
Her first album in three years, it was completed alongside her musical partner Nathan Salsburg – the two married last summer, just after recording was finished.
Out on June 24th, the album features a smattering of guests, including Bill Callahan, the wonderful Meg Baird, and British novelist Max Porter.
Says Joan of the new material: "'The Spur' is the result of a period of opposite extremes: of intellectual hyper-connection and physical isolation. This album will forever be fused with the memory of our marriage, the birth of our child, and the intense joy despite the darkness."
The title track is online now, a remarkable, pointed return, matching aspects of Americana against personal revelation.
Revolving around those flurries of acoustic guitar, it's a crunching, meditative piece – tune in below.
