Jim Jarmusch Working On Iggy Pop Film

New documentary due

Celebrated American director Jim Jarmusch is planning to direct a new documentary about punk icon Iggy Pop.

Iggy Pop is a force of nature. As frontman with The Stooges the singer helped set out the punk template, with loud guitars, screaming vocals and plenty of audience provoking antics during a live show.

Now a venerated rock icon, Iggy Pop recently reformed Iggy & The Stooges for a series of tour dates. Focussing on their 1973 classic ‘Raw Power’ the shows have seen the band introduce their music to a new generation.

Always difficult to pin down, Iggy Pop is set to be the subject of a new documentary directed by Jim Jarmusch. The celebrated director is a close friend of the singer, who starred in his film ‘Cigarettes And Coffee’.

Focussing on the singer’s entire career, it is set to feature new interviews as well as rare archive footage. Speaking to Pitchfork, Jim Jarmusch claimed that Iggy Pop himself asked him to take control, although there is no premiere date in sight.

“It’s something Iggy (Pop) asked me to do” claimed the director. “There’s a rule in my household that if Iggy is playing anywhere within 90 miles, we go. It’s going to take a few years though. There’s no rush on it.”

The director is currently curating an All Tomorrow’s Parties event in New York, but is working on a new film already. The follow up to his recent effort ‘The Limits Of Control’ the new film will feature an appearance from British actress Tilda Swinton.

The pair worked together on his last film, with Tilda Swinton also appearing in the Jim Jarmusch classic ‘Broken Flowers’.

“I have a new film project that’s really foremost for me. I hope to shoot early next year with Tilda Swinton and Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska, who was Alice in Wonderland in Tim Burton’s film. I don’t have that quite financed yet, so I’m working on that.”

Work on the Iggy Pop documentary is ongoing.
