Jim James Solo Album Due

'Regions of Light and Sound of God' due on February 4th

Jim James is set to release his debut solo album 'Regions of Light and Sound of God' on February 4th.

The mercurial voice behind My Morning Jacket, Jim James has spent more than fifteen years making peerless, wonderful music. Using the name Yim Yames for his own, very occasional solo endeavours the songwriter is seemingly ready to step out on his own.

Confirming plans for new solo material, Jim James is set to release his new album 'Regions of Light and Sound of God' on February 4th. The album itself seems to be typically imaginative, with the songwriter revealing some of the inspirations behind his work.

"I wanted the album to sound like it came from a different place in time," Jim James revealed recently. "Perhaps sounding as if it were the past of the future, if that makes any sense—like a hazy dream that a fully-realized android or humanoid capable of thought might have when it reminisces about the good old days of just being a simple robot."

Containing nine songs, 'Regions of Light and Sound of God' was seemingly written and performed solely by Jim James. "I’m very lucky to play in a band with guys that I love, who are great at what they do," he said, "so on MMJ records, I don’t have a need to play bass or keys or what have you. But as a person and as a musician, I love to play every instrument under the sun, and I wanted to make a record where I played all the instruments and produced/engineered it myself."

Listen to sample track 'Know Til Now' below – it's typically glorious.
