Iceland artist JFDR will release new album ‘Museum’ on April 28th.
The multi-talented songwriter – real name Jófríður Ákadóttir – formed a key voice within acclaimed Icelandic group Samaris, before focussing on solo endeavours. 2020’s excellent ‘New Dreams’ won wide acclaim on its release, before JFDR decided to begin focussing on fresh ideas.
‘Museum’ is the result of this process, and it will become her debut for revered UK imprint Houndstooth. Out on April 28th, she describes the work as “an album about clearing and healing; like breathing fresh strong air through your old self.”
New song ‘Spectactor’ is online now, a hushed but powerful return, framed by spartan delicacy. A song about feeling caught in the middle, its gentle nature sits in contrast to the intensity of the emotions that inspired it.
JFDR comments: “‘Spectator’ is an anthem for the codependent, a lullaby for the ones slightly codependent and for those who have never felt it; a mirror into the raw thought process of someone deep in the trenches of it…”
The video was crafted alongside Timothee Lambrecq, with the “unmissable support” of Josh Wilkinson – JFDR’s husband – and Áslaug Magnúsdóttir. Equally the beauty of the music itself, it’s a clip replete with symbolism. She says:
“The clouds represent thoughts, and getting swallowed by a big cloud is symbolic of the thoughts that can overtake you, when you lose your ground. I also wanted to reference the album and its artwork that centers around a statue, representing energy frozen in time. I truly hope this song makes someone feel seen. It can take a long time to learn to navigate big emotions, whether they’re your own or others’. I was feeling it at the time.”
Tune in now.
