Jessica Pratt has shared new song ‘World On A String’.
The songwriter makes her long-awaited return with new album ‘Here In The Pitch’, which is set to be released on May 3rd. New song ‘World On A String’ is out now, the second single to emerge from the West Coast artist’s incoming LP.
The trademark minimalism inherent in her work is evident here, augmented by a slight hint of 60s baroque pop. The brush work by the drummer is superbly understated, while the pang of longing in Jessica Pratt’s voice sends shivers down your spine.
She comments…
“On this track I was influenced by the swaying, naive brilliance of ‘lost’ teenage garage rock bands, as well as enduring loves like The Nazz and Guided By Voices. Record the song moments after you’ve learned it on an instrument you’ve just picked up. Oftentimes, that’s all you need.”
There’s also a neat video, shot by fellow songwriter Kate Bollinger. The director adds:
“Making this video with Jessica was a dream art project. We emailed for days, discussing the song and trying to combine the images we saw in our heads, eventually landing on a mondo style march-of-the-pagan village meets field of freaks. We brought in many friends from Los Angeles to get the found footage sort of multi perspective feel. It was a big group effort and a day I’ll always remember.”
Jessica Pratt will play a sold out show at London’s Union Chapel on June 6th; a second show follows on June 7th at EartH Theatre.
Tune in now.
