Jelani Blackman Links With Kojey Radical On ‘Izit’

"It’s about standing up and taking note of the constant injustice and inequality we have to deal with..."

Jelani Blackman and Kojey Radical combine on new single ‘Izit’.

Jelani Blackman is one of British music’s true all-rounders, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who can – it seems – turn his hand to anything. Blessed with a unique voice, the past 12 months have represented a breakthrough of sorts.

Radio 1 favourite ‘Comfy’ soundtracked summer, with Jelani deciding to close out 2022 with a stellar new single. ‘Izit’ is a punchy, pointed return with laters of meaning, a song that allows the songwriter to link with another multi-talented UK hero – Kojey Radical.

Together, the pair have a blast on ‘Izit’ a song that ripples with energy. Jelani is an irrepressible force, while Kojey Radical is fresh from the enormous success of his ‘Reason To Smile’ album – find the Clash review in our archive.

Out now on 18 Records / MNRK, Jelani Blackman introduces the single by commenting…

Anyone who follows my music knows I like to touch on social commentary and I think this music and message is the strongest statement I’ve made. It’s about standing up and taking note of the constant injustice and inequality we have to deal with because of greed, prejudice and power.”

Kojey’s a very talented artist, we’ve known each other for a while and been waiting to collaborate at some point. I’m happy this is the track we linked up on because I think it reflects the energy we both have. There’s so much tension and hate in the world at the moment and not always clarity. I hope the lyrics and force in this track fuels people’s energy, to push actions and voices further, so positive change can’t be ignored.”

Tune in now.
