Jean Dawson And Lil Yachty Link On ‘Die For Me’

Lifted from forthcoming album, 'Glimmer Of God'.

Rising musician Jean Dawson has announced the release of his new album ‘Glimmer Of God’, out this October.

The maverick talent teases the raw, truth-telling direction of the album with ‘Die For Me’ featuring Lil Yachty. Laced with orchestral flourishes, synthetic organ and a foreboding degree of religiousity, the track honours the sounds of Dawson’s youth and his obsessive strain of creativity.

The track was written by Dawson and Yachty, and co-produced with frequent collaborators Hoskins (Khalid, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Don Toliver, Wiz Khalifa), Vic Wainstein (Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, Mac Miller, Odd Future), Biako (Masego, Fousheé, Fana Hues, Baby Rose) and Johnny May (Sam Short, Che Lingo).

Of ‘Die For Me’, Dawson says: “Knowledge speaks & wisdom listens – I don’t know anything but this feeling I’m chasing and the closer I get the further it seems. I don’t want to talk anymore. When I was younger I was so excited, so talkative now I’m no longer excited, just obsessed. I no longer have words except for in the songs I write. I hope you feel something.

If the confessional feel of ‘Die For Me’ is anything to go by, ‘Glimmer Of God’ promises to be Dawson’s most emotionally riveting and grandiose work to date. The track follows previous singles ‘Taste Like Metal and Divino Desmadre‘, Dawson’s his first full track in Spanish and the precursor to his new album.

Jean Dawson, 28, was raised in Tijuana and San Diego near the border. His love for music was ignited during his daily five-hour treks across the Mexican-American border to attend school in the US. He came up listening to the rock and rap that his parents loved, as well as the Latin sounds that lined his home. Raised by a single working-class Mexican mother, Dawson poured himself into his art which he used to challenge notions of hyper-masculinity and the social norms that inform Mexican and Black cultures.
