UK producer JD. REID has shared his new ‘sometimes i wonder’ EP in full.
The studio figure is a key player in UK music, both as a collaborator and an often inspired solo voice. An in-demand producer and songwriter, JD. REID has worked with some of the best names around, scoring hits with Mabel and Mahalia, in addition to production work with Celeste, Yazmin Lacey, and Jeshi.
The producer dropped 16-track mixtape ‘North West’s Finest’ in 2021, and recently begin hinting at a return. Out now, new EP ‘sometimes i wonder’ pivots once more, four tracks of electronic abstraction held together by JD. REID’s inquisitive touch.
Fragrant opening statement ‘moon rocks’ offers pastoral electronics similar to Four Tet, while ‘plug’ moves in a left-field house direction. The industrial tones of ‘ghosts’ hint at the grime productions that fired him as a youth, before closer ‘happy face’ unites these aspects into something joyous.
“I love the feeling you get when you hear something for the first time that really resonates with you but it feels brand new”, JD explains. “Above all though, the drive behind this EP was that it was important to come back better and in a different space musically from the last time I released music, because as a person, I’m in a different space now too.”
Tune in now.
