Jay-Z Tops Singles Chart

Rapper heads to number one

Returning rap megastar Jay-Z has hit number one with his new single ‘Run This Town’ featuring contributions from ‘Run This Town’.

Jay-Z is one of the most recognisable entertainers in America. Moving from the rap underground the hip hop icon is now one of the most bankable stars around after signing a huge deal with Live Nation.

Previously, Jay-Z had acted as the MD of Def Jam making him one of the hip hop world’s biggest players. Combining business nous with musical ambition, Jay-Z has driven himself to the top of the charts.

Which is where he remains this week. Jay-Z’s new track ‘Run This Town’ has soared into the UK charts at number one. Taken from his forthcoming album ‘The Blueprint 3’ the track features contributions from Rihanna and Kanye West.

The parent album is also heavy on collaboration, with Kanye West taking the reins as producer. In fact it was West who encouraged Jay-Z to write his controversial comeback single ‘D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-tune)’.

The age of the download is making itself felt on the singles chart this week. Kings Of Leon’s former chart topper ‘Sex On Fire’ bounces back into the Top Ten from outside the Top 30 after appearances at Reading and Leeds.

Sitting proudly at number six, ‘Sex On Fire’ was one of the highlights of the twin site event. Elsewhere in the Top Ten Black Eyed Peas remain at number five with their single ‘I Gotta Feeling’ while pint sized electro vixen Little Boots ‘Remedy’ has entered the charts at number seven.

The UK Top Ten Singles are:

1. Jay-Z ft Rihanna & Kanye West – ‘Run This Town’
2. Sugababes – ‘Sexy’
3. David Guetta Ft Akon – ‘Sexy Chick’
4. Dizzee Rascal – ‘Holiday’
5. Black Eyed Peas – ‘I Gotta Feeling’
6. Kings Of Leon – ‘Sex On Fire’
7. Little Boots – ‘Remedy’
8. Tinchy Stryder Ft Amelle – ‘Never Leave You’
