American hip hop icon Jay-Z has sprung to the defence of Kanye West over his friend’s recent comments at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Kanye West just can’t sit still. The rapper had twice before invaded the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards, so organisers really shouldn’t have been surprised when Kanye West made his views known.
Taylor Swift’s speech for ‘Best Female Video’ was interrupted by Kanye West, who argued that Beyonce should have won. Soundly booed on the night, the row over the rapper’s actions has now spread beyond the world of entertainment.
With fellow rappers and pop stars alike teaming up to have a pop at Kanye West it seems as if like can’t get much worse for the hip hop star. However an off the cuff remark from President Obama has found the rapper labelled a “jack ass” by the most powerful man on the planet.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1 fellow rapper Jay-Z has labelled Kanye West’s actions “inappropriate” but also claims that the media have over-reacted in their reporting of the incident.
Jay-Z claimed that Kanye West’s actions were “inappropriate at the time” and “rude because it was her (Swift’s) moment but that’s the way he really felt”.
He added: “He’s (West) just a super-passionate person. It’s really an awards show and I think it’s a bit of a blow out, but of course it was rude. I think it was rude, but the way they’re treating him…”
“He’s on the cover of every paper. He didn’t kill anybody. No one got harmed.”
