Jay-Z Set For Court Case

Over the name of his club

Rap kingpin Jay-Z is set to sue baseball star David Ortiz after he allegedly opened a sports lounge using a copyrighted name.

Jay-Z is much more than just a rap star. The former MD of Def Jam, the hip hop artist recently signed a record breaking deal with Live Nation making him one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry.

Together with his wife Beyonce, the pair represent a formidable partnership. We at ClashMusic pity the fool who takes these two on!

Which makes the actions of Red Sox star David Ortiz even more bizarre. The baseball player recently opened up a sports lounge which bears the name of 40/40 Club – the same as Jay-Z’s own club.

Filing a law suit, Jay-Z is set to fight for the name. The Caribbean born baseball star opened the club in the Dominican Republic, with up to $5 million being invested in the lavish sports lounge.

Lawyers for the rapper insist that the name issue cannot be a coincidence. “David Ortiz was at the club at least twice, and certainly knew of it,” said Jay-Z’s lawyer, Peter Raymond, of the firm ReedSmith.

The legal team have distributed photos of Ortiz partying at Jay-Z’s club, with a statement insisting that the baseball player “blatantly trades on the goodwill and fame” Jay-Z and his partners have built up.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z’s sometime partner Kanye West is also facing a legal battle. Hosting a party at his home, Death Row boss Suge Knight was shot in the leg.

Now the music industry mogul is suing the rapper for failing to provide adequate protection.
