American rapper Jay-Z has cracked the UK charts with the ‘Blueprint’ star scoring two hit singles in the Top Ten this week.
Jay-Z is one of the biggest stars in the United States. Having scored several multi-platinum albums the rapper was made MD of seminal hip hop stable Def Jam before departing in a record breaking Live Nation deal.
However in this side of the Atlantic Jay-Z has not quite enjoyed the same level of success. That could be about to change, however, with new album ‘The Blueprint 3’.
Produced by Kanye West the album has already spawned one hit in the form of ‘D.O.A. (Death Of Autotune)’. However the rapper has outdone himself with the latest UK Top Ten Singles chart carrying two of his tracks.
Currently, ‘Empire State Of The Mind’ sits at number three with Jay-Z also sitting at number five with ‘Run This Town’. With the rapper playing support slots on Coldplay’s epic new tour, this could be the start of immense fame for the hip hop star.
Elsewhere on the chart, Madonna breaks into the Top Ten with her new single ‘Celebration’. The Queen of Pop topped the album charts with her latest compilation this week, which is also titled ‘Celebration’.
Dizzee Rascal is still riding high in the charts with new single ‘Holiday’ sitting at number nine. The latest smash hit for the rapper, his new album ‘Tongue N Cheek’ did battle against Madonna and Muse this week but could only reach number three.
The UK Top Ten singles are:
1. Taio Cruz – ‘Break Your Heart’
2. David Guetta Ft Akon – ‘Sexy Chick’
3. Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind
4. Shakira – ‘She Wolf’
5. Jay-Z Ft Rihanna & Kanye West – ‘Run This Town’
