Jasper Sommer Shares Striking Visuals for ‘Memento’

Prompted by Christopher Nolan's cinematic work...

Jasper Sommer has dropped visuals for his latest single ‘Memento’, released via EFG Records Oy.

Surrounded by snapshots of the past, the Derbyshire musician takes a reflective turn with his latest offering. Captured in a dim-lit room, the track’s production lends itself to moody pulses, finding a balance between pop and hip-hop. Lyrically, Sommer digs into the polarising themes of attachment and isolation whilst exploring the meaning of happiness. Allowing for his laid-back tones and harmonies to steer the listener, the singer-songwriter builds momentum through a magnetic hook.

‘Memento’ marks a turning point for Sommer, gearing up to his EP which is set to release early in the new year. The project celebrates the next chapter of the artist’s journey, extending his production skills into a more eclectic pool of sounds. Covering the likes of blink-182 growing up, the riser formed a band with his two close friends, developing his music taste through his father’s record collection. Since then, Sommer has continued to experiment with his craft, gravitating towards the qualities of James Blake and Four Tet to create his own, unique approach.

Speaking on the track, Jasper Sommer expands: “The video is inspired by Christopher Nolan’s 2000 classic film of the same title, ‘Memento’. Following the protagonist through nostalgic memories, [it was] filmed in the landscapes of the Joshua Tree, California.”

Tune in now.
