Drummer Janet Weiss has confirmed her departure from Sleater-Kinney.
The seminal American group will release new album 'The Center Won't Hold' on August 16th, following sessions with Annie Clark / St. Vincent.
The material represents a shift from their previous work, and this "new direction" has seemingly prompted Janet Weiss to re-assess her position in the band.
A real powerhouse, her supreme technical ability and immaculate feel helped push Sleater-Kinney to fresh heights following her recruitment on 1997's 'Dig Me Out' album.
With the new record incoming Janet Weiss has decided that "it is time for me to move on".
"We were a force to nature," she writes. Weiss finishes: "Thank you for sustaining me the past 24 years and for proving without a doubt that love and connection are what saves us".
