Reformed funk-rock gods Jane’s Addiction have opened up on the pressures of touring, with singer Perry Farrell admitting the band are “butting heads”.
Jane’s Addiction are one of the finest party bands on the planet, with the band seemingly enjoying their live performances as much as the audience. With a famously fractious band dynamic, it was only a matter of time before they fell out again with singer Perry Farrell admitting in a new interview that they have had difficulties on the road together.
Jane’s Addiction are currently touring the world with Nine Inch Nails, who are set to go on hiatus once the tour is over. In a new interview singer Perry Farrell reveals that Nine Inch Nails head honcho Trent Reznor has been attempting to mediate, but the band are having none of it.
“I’m not going to tell you it’s been all smooches and hugs,” Farrell told Reuters. “But it shouldn’t be because that would be a bore.”
He added: “I just talked to Eric man-to-man. We’re different people, that’s okay. I’m overjoyed that we’re working together. I don’t care that we butt heads as long as when we hit the stage we blast on people.”
Farrell added that Trent Reznor had attempted to intervene. “He did his best to be both producer and psychologist. I wish he would’ve produced a little more, but he was a little gun shy after seeing us explode on each other in the studio. He became the referee for a day and after that day I think he was done.”
One of the first releases fans can expect from these recording sessions is a new single, which Farrell insists will be given away for free over the internet.
“We don’t have a record label to have to worry about putting together something that they can charge for,” he said. “I think we should put the songs out and keep writing and be creative.”
