American artist Janelle Monae is planning to release two brand new studio LPs in 2012.
With her James Brown inspired dance moves and soulful material, Janelle Monae could be accused of indulging yet another retro trip through time. However the singer’s idiosyncratic approach, her unique visuals and ambitious lyrics – a space opera, anyone? – continue to break new ground.
Lying low, Janelle Monae has continued to keep fans guessing as to her next move. Breaking cover to speak to American blog Back To Rockville, the singer has confirmed that she is working on two new studio albums.
“I am happy to be here and see my family, and I am eager to get back to the studio and work on finishing my album. I stopped touring so I could finish the album. Actually, I plan on releasing two albums next year” she said.
Continuing, Janelle Monae referred to her ‘soul clock’ as a guide for the upcoming releases. “I will release them according to my soul clock; so I reserve the right to change that. But I will try to stick to the scheduled release dates, which I know but can’t say. I will be thinking about Kansas City and all the people here who have supported me as I continue to write songs that empower, encourage and make you dance.”
Asked how far along the recording process was, the singer said: “I would say 84.799 percent of the writing is done.”
Released last year, ‘The ArchAndroid’ was a breakthrough moment for Janelle Monae. Spawning an international tour, the singer confirmed that she will get back out on the road next year: “Everything is about timing. This year was about the beginning of my career and working with established artists. Next year, we’ll step it up a little more.”
