Rising alt-pop voice Jana Diab has shared an extended take on her debut EP ‘Season One’.
The songwriter has a broad sound, with the glossy production – so redolent of those late 90s twists beloved by Gen Z artists – masking aspects hewn from rock and R&B, with elements of hip-hop studio artistry.
The summer single ‘Escape Plan’ was a signal of her intention, crafting alongside close collaborator Couros Shebani in the studio. Since then, she’s been moving with alacrity – born in Cairo but raised in London, she’s already got a huge amount of life experience to draw on.
Debut EP ‘Season One’ offers a tantalising glimpse of her potential, and she’s now shared an extended version. Jana writes…
Couros and I wrote many songs, but the ones that stood out to me the most were the ones I released in the first edition of the EP, along with the additional four — ‘Out Of Line’, ‘Honey’, ‘I Love You More’, and ‘9 Lives’.
My decision to split was based on how I felt about each song. If I had any doubts about whether I truly loved a song, I would set it aside to revisit later. However, for the ones I felt 100% confident about, I chose to release them. It sounds simple, but I just trusted my gut. I felt more attached to these songs because these particular songs perfectly captured my emotions, both in the melodies and the lyrics.
The extended take on the EP contains some beautiful moments, including fan-favourite cut ‘I Love You More’ – a lush, emotionally open piece of songwriting that wears it heart on its immaculate sleeve.
Tune in now.
