Jamila Woods Surrenders To The Currents On ‘Good News’

New album ‘Water Made Us’ lands October 13th…

Chicago artist Jamila Woods continues to frame her new era.

‘Good News’ is the third single lifted from her third album, ‘Water Made Us’, a beautifully-phrased psych-soul special. Co-written by Jamila, Biako and Jean Placide, the song informed the album’s title and iconography.

“The good news is we were happy once / the good news is water always runs back where it came from / the good news is water made us’,” Jamila explains. “For me the song is a lesson in surrender, a lesson I learn from water over and over again.”

‘Good News’ follows previous singles ‘Tiny Garden’ and ‘Boomerang’, all contained with an album surveying themes of memory, belonging and returning. Partly recorded in quarantine, Jamila later fleshed out her sonic sketches with LA-based producer McClenney, marrying her poetic profundity and emotional introspection with a more versatile soundboard.
