It's a heady, up tempo workout with a touch of afrobeat...

Jamie xx has returned with new release 'Idontknow'.

The producer has built a sound that focusses on pensive introspection, utilising club tropes to depiction inner movements.

New release 'Idontknow' continues this solitary path, but in a different way, shifting the tempo above 160BPM.

Opening with a percussive flurry that recalls afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen, it then settles into a steady groove.

Snippets of distorted vocal melody pirouette around the rhythm, with 'Idontknow' aiming for directness over subtlety.

It's a little more raw than his full length, but carries the painterly touch fans of his work so admire.

Tune in now.
