Ron Howard is set to mentor James Murphy, assisting the producer as he makes a new film.
The demise of LCD Soundsystem seems to have unleashed James Murphy’s creative streak. The producer has hurled himself into all manner of projects, including his debut appearance as an actor.
Now James Murphy has outlined plans for a new short film. Famed Hollywood director Ron Howard is set to mentor the producer, overseeing Murphy’s foray into the cinematic world.
The project is inspired by visual arts, with James Murphy working from the winning photography submissions in a Canon competition. Speaking to Rolling Stone, the producer said: “I don’t know what I’m doing, but that’s what I’m excited about”.
“Now I’ll be able to call Ron Howard, which is super weird,” he continued. “This is the beauty of having been in a band that did well enough, I guess. You have access to something as crazy as this.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, James Murphy hinted that a new collaboration with Yeah Yeah Yeahs could emerge in the near future. Speaking about his new plans, the producer said: “I’m not going to curl up and die. I’m doing things that I would never have time to do, like go work on a couple of songs with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.”
Meanwhile, James Murphy also takes the starring role in ‘Shut Up And Play The Hits’. A documentary about the final days of LCD Soundsystem, the film goes on general release later this week.
