It's a "neutral espresso"...
James Murphy

James Murphy is readying his own-brand coffee for release.

LCD Soundsystem may well be kaput, but that doesn't mean James Murphy is twiddling his thumbs. Making his acting debut, the DJ is also part of a loose collective named Despacio with 2ManyDJs.

Throughout it all, though, James Murphy has been focussing on one thing: coffee. The producer is a huge fan, mentioning last year that he was working on his own brand.

A collaboration with James Freeman - the founder of craft coffee company Blue Bottle - the brew is now ready to be released.

"It's working," Murphy told Rolling Stone. "I've been drinking it for a month now, and I'm super-psyched about it. I even made it in an Aeropress and a pour-over, and I like it."

Seemingly the taste is defined as "neutral espresso" the coffee is made from "really good single-origin beans" while Murphy maintained that it is "lighter than a traditional Italian roast, but not as light as a Nordic espresso."

Sadly, the producer's packed scheduled has prevented its release. "We're heavily distracted and overbooked," he explained. "Yeah! All right! Let's do it! Okay! I'll talk to you soon! Later!' And we haven't really figured out how to pull the trigger."

Perhaps James Murphy could ask Tim Burgess for a few notes on distribution?

Despacio hits the Ballroom of Hammersmith Town Hall on December 19th and 20th.
