James Murphy Enters Acting

Producer to play "ageing hipster"

LCD Soundsytem producer James Murphy is set to take up a film role as an “ageing hipster”.

James Murphy had a musical career before LCD Soundsystem. The producer had released music and toured long before ‘Losing My Edge’ was given its first vinyl pressing back in 2001. Yet for many, James Murphy equals LCD Soundsystem and LCD Soundsystem equals James Murphy.

Clearly, stepping aside from the project will be difficult. Returning to his career as a DJ, James Murphy is now apparently due to enter acting.

Fader reports that James Murphy is set to play an “ageing hipster” in ‘The Comedy’. Co-starring with Tim Heidecker of ‘Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show, Great Job!’ the film is set in Brooklyn and features Murphy as an “ageing hipster”.

Jagjaguwar are helping produce the film, with the synopsis as follows:

– – –

Synopsis: Indifferent even to the prospects of inheriting his father’s estate, Swanson (Heidecker) whiles away his days with a group of aging Brooklyn hipsters, engaging in acts of recreational cruelty and pacified boredom. Desensitized and disenchanted, he strays into a series of reckless situations that may offer the promise of redemption or the threat of retribution. A scathing look at the white male on the verge of collapse, Rick Alverson’s carefully observed portrait provokes and disorients; a cautionary fable for the autumn of the American Era.

The film was written and directed by Rick Alverson, with ‘The Comedy’ already accepted into next year’s Sundance Festival.

‘The Comedy’ is set to be released next year.
