James Brown’s Body Not Missing

Funeral director denies claims

The body of soul icon James Brown is not missing, the singer’s funeral director has confirmed.

James Brown is an icon of American music. Labelled ‘Soul Brother Number One’ by his fans, iconic cuts such as ‘Say It Loud (I’m Black And I’m Proud)’ changed the direction of soul music and laid the groundwork for hip hop.

The funkiest man on the planet, James Brown sadly passed away on Christmas Day in 2006. Suffering from pneumonia, the singer died in hospital.

Given a lavish funeral, numerous people have since come forward claiming to be the singer’s child. LaRhonda Pettit is amongst these, with the American woman recently claiming that James Brown’s body is missing.

Alleging that his body was stolen, Pettit then argued that she believed James Brown had been murdered. Demanding the body be returned for an autopsy, subsequent reports have rubbished her claims.

Speaking to the August Chronicle funeral director CA Reid claimed that Pettit’s claims were without foundation. “There’s no truth to that” he claimed. “It would have had to have gone through us. We would have been contacted if that happened.”

The family has not notified authorities about the missing body, Reid said. If the family did plan to move it a permit is required, he continued.

“This would be a criminal offense,” Reid said of Petit’s claim. “If this was the case, she would need to talk to police.”
