Rising force Jacob Alon has shared their debut single ‘Fairy In A Bottle’.
The songwriter has been on our radar for a while now, since performing at the CLASH stage for last year’s First Fifty in London. A precursor to the Great Escape, we couldn’t help but follow Jacob to Brighton – where their set bowled us over once more.
A terrific artist, their technical abilities – a soaring, Buckley-esque voice, with nimble, quietly experimental acoustic guitar playing – is matched to wonderful songs, of palpable emotion and vulnerability.
A queer voice who grew up in Fife but now finds a home in Edinburgh, Jacob’s story is one of estrangement, homelessness, but ultimately perseverance – until they found themselves amid a chosen family in Scotland’s capital.
Set to play London’s Folklore venue on October 7th, debut single ‘Fairy In A Bottle’ is a point of introduction.
Jacob cites Nick Drake and Adrianne Lenker as key inspirations, and you can hear aspects of both in this song – the dulcet, organic melodic arrangements, the cutting lyricism, the sheer emotional heft in this Scottish artist’s work.
A wonderful introduction, you can find a performance clip below.
