Jack White, guitar slinger with the White Stripes and The Raconteurs, had immortalized his home city of Detroit in a new poem, it has emerged.
The singer was born and bred in one of the less-affluent districts of Detroit, and as legend has it was the seventh son in his family. In the past, however, White has made several disparaging comments the city, especially after he moved to the Southern city of Nashville with his wife Karen Elson.
The new poem is entitled “Courageous Dream’s Concern” and was published in the Detroit Free Press on Sunday (July 6th). The new poem celebrates the city, with White explaining to Detroit Free Press that “those expressions of mine have never been a representation of my feelings about Detroit the city, a town that I have strong feelings about”.
Several of the White Stripes early songs referenced Detroit, most notably “The Big 3 Killed My Baby” which recalled the decline of heavy industry in the town. The Raconteurs are currently touring their second album “Consolers Of The Lonely”.
