Jack White Talks Volume

Guitarist has been warned by engineers

Workaholic guitarist Jack White has revealed in a new interview that he has been warned by sound engineers about the volume he plays his guitar.

Jack White plays a truly electric style of guitar. Using his trademark six string the Detroit musician squeals and groans his way through live sets, with his spasm-style solos interjecting the chunky garage style riffs.

Famous for his role in The White Stripes, Jack White is also a member of The Raconteurs and recently unveiled his new project The Dead Weather. Featuring Alison Mosshart singing alongside other indie rock alumni the group recently began streaming their debut album ‘Horehound’.

Beginning a UK tour, fans can expect some serious volume to come flooding out of Jack White’s amplifier.

In a recent interview American magazine Rolling Stone the musician claimed that he only realises he is too loud when engineers show him the decibel monitor.

“I need to feel it (volume),” he said. “I’ve gone through things where I go onstage and the sound guy at soundcheck comes over and he’ll hold the decibel meter and show it to me while we’re playing — and it’s 127 decibels.”

Even though he loves volume, Jack White admitted that his method may not be the healthiest. The guitarist even admitted to worrying about his hearing saying “that’s not good. And I can’t even tell. If it’s not right there, it feels wimpy, it feels uninspiring.”

The guitarist appears in a new documentary called ‘It Might Get Loud’ in which he explores his love of the guitar. Jack White is joined in the film by Led Zeppelin axeman Jimmy Page and U2 guitarist The Edge.

The film premiered recently and is set for general release later in the year.

The Dead Weather are due to release their new album ‘Horehound’ on July 13th.
