Jack White has dismissed any suggestion that The White Stripes could reform.
With their stark colour coding, lightning guitar lines and pounding drums The White Stripes helped to energise a moribund indie scene. The band’s take on stripped down garage-blues acted as a shot in the arm, helping to inspire a generation of young musicians to sack their bass player.
Formally announcing their split in 2010, fans hunger after a potential reformation. Speaking to NME on the eve of his solo album ‘Blunderbuss’, the guitarist told the NME that the thought had never crossed his mind.
“I would probably say absolutely not” he said. “Absolutely no chance. I couldn’t see any reason to ever do that. I’m not the kind of person that would retire from baseball and come out of retirement the next year”.
“I mean, if we went to all the trouble of telling people we’re done, we meant it you know?… If we were forced to change our mind about that, I can only imagine the reason being if we went bankrupt or really needed the cash, which would be a really sad thing. I would probably be issuing an apology along with the announcement of the show dates.”
Fans do have plenty of Jack White activity to console themselves with, however. The guitarist will release new album ‘Blunderbuss’ on April 23rd, and recently drove down to SXSW to showcase his Third Man wares.
