Jack White Denies Kinks Rumours

Soundtrack work ruled out

Jack White has denied that he is set to work on the soundtrack for the forthcoming movie ‘Schoolboys In Disgrace’.

Jack White has never hid his love of blunt garage rock. The Detroit guitarist has always paid homage to The Kinks, so rumours of a potential tie up between the two seemed like a logical step.

The guitarist was speculatively tied to the making of ‘Schoolboys In Disgrace’ – a film based on a 1975 album by The Kinks. White has worked on previous soundtrack projects, which seemed to lend the rumour even more credence.

The news had even reached Ray Davies, who recently commented on the idea of White providing the soundtrack.

“He’s a great technical player and would bring some great anarchy to it, which is in keeping with the script” the seminal songwriter told the BBC.

However a short statement from Jack White has denied any truth in the rumour. “Rumors of Jack White’s participation in the film version of the Kinks’ Schoolboys in Disgrace are untrue” it read.

“Jack White has great respect for the Kinks and the film’s director, Bobcat Goldthwait, but has no plans to record any music for the film as erroneously reported.” (via Pitchfork)

Meanwhile, work is ongoing for a film version of ‘Schoolboys In Disgrace’. A rather neglected aspect of The Kinks discography, Bobcat Goldthwait has taken charge of producing a film version.

Commenting to the BBC, Ray Davies explained that a script is already in place. “He’s written a great script, we’ve got the money to do it but he’s got another movie to do and then he’s thinking about doing Schoolboys later this year or early next year,” said the songwriter.

He added: “Bobcat’s got a really good vision of what he wants. Once the script’s been approved, I never interfere with a director and what they want.”
