They may only be a few months old, but the relationships within Jack White’s new project The Dead Weather seem to be spectacularly strained.
Jack White is going to be a busy man, of that there is no doubt. With The Raconteurs new album behind him the guitarist has formed a new group called The Dead Weather to keep him out of mischief.
Containing members of The Greenhornes and Queens Of The Stone Age, The Dead Weather are fronted by The Kills singer Alison Mosshart. The band have released one single, with their debut album ‘Horehound’ already in the can and due for release later in the year.
Produced by Jack White in his own studio, the album is said to be heavier in feel than The Raconteurs, with additional synth action. A cover of Gary Numan’s ‘Are Friends Electric?’ appeared on the flipside of the single, demonstrating their love of filthy electro sounds.
The Dead Weather made their public debut recently with a show in the offices of Jack White’s Third Man label in Nashville. However it seems that relations between White and Mosshart have become strained.
According to The Sun the pair become embroiled in a raging argument after a drinking session in New York.
A witness told The Sun: “Jack and Alison went on a mammoth all-day session when they met up in New York. They sunk a lot of alcohol and ended up at each others’ throats. It was a one-off scrap and they both feel really ashamed.”
“But they are over it now and have promised each other they won’t get into that state again.”
Jack White, of course, already has a criminal record. The guitarist was found guilty of assault after punching The Von Bondies’ guitarist Jason Stollheimer in a Detroit venue. The pair were once friends but had grown apart, with White said to be aggrieved after reading comments Stollheimer made in an interview.
The Kills, meanwhile, thrived on the tense relationship between Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince. Clad in black, the pair would glare at the crowd and each other, lost in a vicious yet engrossing narcissism.
The Dead Weather will release their debut album ‘Horehound’ on June 13th.
