Jack Colwell is a songwriter whose music and life are neatly intertwined.
The Australian artist crafts highly personal songs – indeed, it's the only way he knows how.
New single 'Weak' was constructed alongside the magnificent Sarah Blasko, and it's a song about repressed desire, self-worth, and coming to an understanding on where you are in life.
Rooted in those dulcet piano chords, 'Weak' has a plaintive, organic arrangement, powered by Jack Colwell's superbly poised vocal.
He explains: "When I was a teenager, I had a relationship with someone who bullied me in public circumstances."
"It was painful, but I understood that the bullying took place because he wasn’t comfortable with who he was inside as a person yet, whereas I was a bit further along in my acceptance of myself. Behind closed doors I was his confidante, but to the world I was his punching bag – a joke."
The full video for 'Weak' expands on these themes, shot in and around Perth, Western Australia. Jack Colwell takes the central role, a quietly intense performance that finds him staring into the camera.
