Ivor Novello Nominations

Coldplay and Duffy share plaudits

The nominations for this year’s Ivor Novello awards have been announced with Coldplay and Duffy sharing the plaudits.

Named in honour of the legendary songwriter, the Ivor Novellos have risen in prestige in recent years. Once regarded as being one of the less important ceremonies, the trophy now carries much more weight.

This year celebrates a very special batch of releases. British music enjoyed its most successful year in some time with acts such as Duffy, Coldplay, Radiohead and more enjoying massive global success.

The awards reflect this, but also demonstrate how the acts are regarded by their peers across a wide variety of categories. Coldplay and Duffy share three nominations each, but are closely followed by the likes of Elbow, M.I.A. and many more.

The ceremony is set to take place in London’s Grosvenor House on May 21st, and showcases some lesser known acts alongside the chart toppers. Nick Hemming, for example, has been nominated for ‘Best Song Musically And Lyrically’ doing battle with Brit award winner Elbow.

Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood’s score for ‘There Will Be Blood’ has also been nominated, as the Ivor Novellos aim to acknowledge all forms of popular composition.
