One of the pivotal figures in UK hip hop Tricky is set to return with his eight studio album “Knowle West Boy” on July 7th.
Now signed to Domino Records, Tricky is said to be in contemplative mode – Knowle West is the council estate in Bristol that Tricky grew up on. With song titles such as “Puppy Toy” and “School Gates” the album has a recurring childhood theme, but fans shouldn’t expect a ‘twee’ reminiscence. Knowle West is renowned as a difficult place to grow up, and Tricky endured his mother’s suicide at the age of just four.
With Portishead and Massive Attack recently returning, it is hoped that this new album will represent a return to the glory days of 1995’s “Maxinquaye” and a revival of the ‘Bristol Sound’.
Tricky’s “Knowle West Boy” will be released on July 7th.
