For a while there, it looked as though the humble record shop was set to be consigned to the dustbin of music history.
The past few years, though, have witnessed a remarkable comeback. In tandem with the vinyl resurgence, the record shop has crawled back from the abyss, with new outposts opening across the land.
Plectrum Records, though, promises something special. Perhaps Britain's smallest record shop, owner Matthew Hawton swung open the doors in the garden of his house in Peterborough earlier this week.
"It was simply impossible to open a shop in the town centre," he explains. "This way we can keep the costs down which is great for our customers. I can’t complain about the commute to work either."
"For many of us, vinyl has never been away, but its popularity is certainly on the rise," he continues. "It’s an exciting time for record collectors."
Opening hours are from 10am to 4pm (Monday to Friday) and Saturday from 11am to 2pm – find Plectrum Records at 387 Fulbridge Road, Peterborough, PE4 6SF.
