Spectacular Californian songwriter Iron And Wine is set to gather rare material on his new double album ‘Around The Well’.
Real name Sam Beam, the songwriter began life as a teacher before being drawn back to his first live – music. Working in isolation Iron And Wine began releasing home recorded and press tapes, before being snapped up by Sub Pop.
Working prodigiously, Sam Beam has amassed a celebrated back catalogue culminating in the 2007 album ‘The Shepherd’s Dog’. His most successful album to date, Beam is currently locked away in the studio working on a follow up which is due for release next year.
Until then, however, fans must content themselves with ‘Around The Well’. Containing both hard-to-get and unreleased tracks, the album is a unique insight into Beam’s music.
A double album, the first half documents home recordings while the second finds the singer at ease in the studio. Containing rare covers of New Order’s ‘Love Vigilantes’ and The Flaming Lips’ ‘Waiting For A Superman’ the album brings some of Iron And Wine’s lesser known moments into one handy package.
The album takes its name from a line in the song ‘The Trapeze Singer’ – written for the film ‘Good Company’. Three other tracks written for the film also find a home here with ‘Belated Promise Ring’, ‘God Made The Automobile’ and ‘Homeward, These Shoes’.
Iron And Wine are set to release their new album ‘Around The Well’ on June 1st.
