Introducing… The Bandana Splits

New Dawn Landes project confirmed

Dawn Landes has outlined plans for her new doo-wop inspired project The Bandana Splits.

A soft, country influenced chanteuse Dawn Landes is known for producing a certain style of music. The perfect soundtrack for late summer evenings on a Tennessee porch, the singer has rightly earned acclaim with a series of albums.

However a meeting with friends in Brooklyn earlier this year has led to a change in direction. Dawn Landes now fronts The Bandana Splits, a new three piece doo-wop inspired group who are working on their debut album.

Producer Sam Cohen (of the band Apollo Sunshine) helmed recent recording sessions, which saw the trio sing around one mic. Working as live as possible, The Bandana Splits have a genuine love of that retro sound.

The trio took care of vocals duties, while Cohen played all of the instruments with the arrangements being kept sparse.

Writing originals to sit alongside a carefully chosen bunch of covers, Dawn Landes & Co. have a deeply personal attachment to the material. At one point Bandana Splits sing an a cappella version of ‘You Don’t Have to be a Baby to Cry’ – a song learned by Lauren’s mother on her honeymoon.

Intrigued? The Bandana Splits have made lead track ‘Sometimes’ available as a free download – grab it HERE.

The song titles give a good indication of what to expect – ‘My Love’, ‘Choo Choo’, ‘Baby Talkin’ (The Shoo Wop Song)’ and so forth indicate cute, wholesome and deeply retro style fun.

The Bandana Splits are set to release their self-titled debut album on August 29th. Tracklisting:
